Brown Diamond is a New York nonprofit. Founded in 2011 out of the passion of our founder and Executive Director Constance L. Diggs. Following her life calling to help bridge older and younger generations through advocacy and preservation of the arts and culture, Constance believes in the transformative power of history. Our mission is to unearth, study, and preserve culture and history from the African and American Diasporas for current and future generations. The company’s creative inventory includes documentary and feature films, electronic and print literature, temporary and traveling exhibitions, staged spoken word and theatrical performances, curriculum and lecture series. “The vision is to develop, produce, and release one book and one film (short, documentary, or feature) a year,” Constance shares. “We will also seek to stage and exhibit theatrical and artistic works in select under-served communities that will then be released for broader distribution on the internet.” While there are many very wonderful organizations, cultural institutions, and individuals engaged in this very important work, we believe there can never be too many conversations about history, culture, and the arts. Our hope is to join the dialogue and help broaden and increase public awareness and understanding of communities of color, increase and foster positive images in and about communities of color, and help decrease stereotypes and prejudices that lead to and promote racism, racial profiling, social genocide, and other race related social ills. Our mantra is to create opportunities for us to remember not to forget.”
