I founded the Sylvan Learning Center #3301 franchise in Bettendorf, Iowa on November 15, 1987. I was responsible for all aspects of the business and was the public face of Sylvan. I determined advertising strategies, was responsible for hiring, firing and training employees, as well as scheduling students and staff, testing, conferencing and, in some instances, teaching, as well (since I have 33 years of teaching experience at levels from 7th grade through college). i also established the most active scholarship program in a 900-member chain, receiving an award from then-sitting First Lady Barbara Bush for same. We also established our own financing plan for those who needed it. I both tested, signed up new students through conferencing with parents, and taught. I also served as CEO of Prometric Testing Center, beginning in 1995 which administered licensing exams to 250 clients in an exclusive partnership with ETS of Princeton, New Jersey, including (at that time) licensing all nurses in North America through administration of the NCLEX exam.
