Resilience Practices for a Changing World. From a Pedagogy of Pleasure.Helping people get out of pain and into balance—all kinds of pain—from chronic back pain and carpal tunnel to the pain of feeling continually stressed or eco-anxiety. Balance and enjoyment can be increased using mind-body practices, including Alexander Technique, somatic and sensory awareness, breath work, movement efficiency and experiential anatomy.Because I emphasize pleasure over productivity or "getting it right" the journey toward wholeness is yummy!My classes and workshops are filled with people from all walks of life, including performers (performers, musicians, actors and dancers) and helping professions (teachers, therapists, wellness practitioners) and regular people who want more less tension and more ease in their daily life. All of them learn the simple principles of the Alexander Technique: Awareness of Self in action. Observing one's patterns of being from the most simple postural habit of leaning back to the more subtle habits of breath and busy mind opens the possibility for change. Inhibition (not responding to a stimulus in the habitual way) creates a pause and a moment of choice. Re-directing movement, thought and action into more conscious and constructive patterns of expansion both relaxes and enlivens all aspects of the self. As these principles are practiced and become skills, students apply them while engaged in whatever activities they choose. With pleasure.Specialties: 25+ years experience in the movement arts and sports, in addition to teaching in various capacities during those years until the present.Former professional dancer with various modern dance companies in San Francisco, including Anne Bluethenthal and Dancers.Founder of Desert Movement Arts, movement exploration for all bodies.Former FEI dressage trainer with four years training in Europe.AmSAT certified.Trauma informed.
