BIOConstance McBride (b. Philadelphia, PA) delves into gender-based issues with ceramic sculpture, mixed media and installations. Notable exhibitions include an upcoming solo at Abington Art Center in January 2023, a four person show at InLiquid Gallery in Philadelphia, PA, a Contemporary Forum Grant Recipients Show at Phoenix Art Museum (Phoenix, AZ), The Clay Studio National (Philadelphia, PA) and Beyond the Brickyard at Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts (Helena, MT). Recent awards include a position in the 2021 Chautauqua Visual Arts Summer Residency Program in Chautauqua, New York and grants from the Puffin Foundation, Arizona Commission on the Arts, Phoenix Art Museum's Contemporary Forum and Philadelphia Sculptors. In 2018, McBride spent five weeks as a facilitator/art educator at Sias University in Xinzheng, China and villages in and around Zhengzhou, Henan Province through Give Voice to Women through the Arts via World Academy for the Future of Women and a US State Department Grant. Her work has received attention from several publications including Yahoo News Art Cities Rising series, Philly Artblog, Cleaver Magazine and the international platforms Inspirational and Ceramics Now. She is a former board member of The Art Trust Gallery in West Chester, PA, a past president of Eye Lounge, a long-standing collective gallery in Phoenix, AZ and a former board member of Artlink, a 32-year nonprofit organization supporting the arts in Arizona. Currently based in Chester Springs, PA she teaches ceramic hand building and sculpture at Clay on Main Art Center in Oley, PA and is a host of Art Watch at WCHE Radio Station in West Chester, PA. Oley, Pa

Clay on Main is a unique art center and studio located in the heart of the Oley Valley in Pennsylvania. The studio developed from a collaboration of artists who regularly work together. Each person brings their own style and ability to a cooperative studio environment that allows discovery, collaboration, and personal development. Clay on Main serves the local community with a variety of clay arts programs. Community classes and workshops in clay are held for adults and children as are professional workshops. Collaborations with other non-profit organizations offer learning opportunities through art, and through public lectures and events. Clay on Main is located on Main Street in the historic village of Oley PA, in a 19th century farmhouse. The township of Oley, a rural mix of farmland, forest, and quaint villages is on the National Register of Historic Places. Rural Berks County, a center of Pennsylvania German red ware continues to inspire clay artists to experiment with creative and contemporary work. Oley is about an hour’s drive northwest of Philadelphia and three hours from New York City.

CCAA provides artist opportunities and classes to students of all ages. Chester County Art Center is Chester County's local art place. The Association was started in 1931. The Center was built in 1953. On the main level, there are two galleries (Allinson Gallery and Huston Gallery - collectively called West Chester Galleries) where local and regional artwork is exhibited nine months of the year (September-May). The larger, Allinson Gallery typically showcases group exhibits comprised of artists of all levels who can enter both juried and non-juried shows. The smaller, Huston Gallery typically showcases solo and dual exhibitions. The galleries close for the summer as the summer art program gets underway and brings a true art experience to the youth in the community.

The World Academy for the future of Women (WAFW) through a US State Department Cultural Grant, embarked on a second year of a bold new program to enhance understanding of American Arts, Culture and values. Give Voice to Women through the Arts is based on Sias International University campus near Zhengzhou, in Xinzheng, People's Republic of China. The WAFW's purpose is to accelerate women's leadership worldwide. As a resident artist/facilitator I create and deliver content via lectures, labs and workshops with an emphasis placed on gender equality, human rights and social justice. In addition to working on Sias University's campus, I visit local and regional art and cultural community centers to conduct 2D and 3D instructional workshops and to give talks on related topics connected to the experiences of artists.

Phoenix, Arizona Area

Students explore and translate ideas that inspire them, into personal and unique figurative sculptures. Works may be freestanding or may be used as part of a wall installation. I teach hand building techniques including coiling and slab building with an emphasis on pre- and post-firing finishing processes. In addition to using glazes, students learn how to apply post-firing surface treatments such as stains, pastels and powdered graphite. My classes are open to all levels of ceramic students.
