Degrees: • Bachelor of Arts (Economics; University of Sussex, UK) • Master of Arts (Economics of Industry; University of Sussex) • Doctor of Philosophy (Economics; University of Sussex) Dr Papadopoulos began his professional life as a career diplomat. For many years he specialized in EU affairs, and was directly involved, inter alia, in the negotiations that led to the EU’s 4th enlargement (1995) and the signing of the Treaty of Amsterdam (1997). He then spent a year at Harvard University as a Fellow of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs (1997-8), conducting research and lecturing. He subsequently moved to the banking industry and Eurobank EFG where he worked for 13 years as Advisor on European and Economic Affairs. In 2010-2012 he was Secretary-General for International Economic Relations & Development Cooperation at the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His responsibilities included Greece’s international bilateral and multilateral economic relations, trade and investment promotion, and Greece’s development assistance to developing countries. Inter alia, he represented Greece on the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council of Ministers (Trade) and was National Coordinator for the €550m Hellenic Programme for the Economic Reconstruction of the Balkans (HiPERB).Dr Papadopoulos was a member of the Deree faculty from September 2015 until August 2022. As a member of the Department of International Business & Economics, he taught the courses Business in the EU, International Business and Business Negotiation. Beginning in 2019, he also taught courses in International Relations & European Affairs in the Department of History, Philosophy and the Ancient World. The courses were Modern European History & Politics, and Diplomacy. His research interests include European integration, EMU, Greek-Turkish relations and the economic crisis in Greece and Europe.
