Primarily responsible for successful transition from the Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM)/Frame Relay(FR) architecture to the newer Internet Protocol(IP)/Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) architecture throughout the entire FBI enterprise. Conducted a massive engineering pilot to duplicate the activities planned for the migration of over 900 private virtual circuits (PVC) currently in the FBI network. The pilot documented risk response plans, and evaluated resource requirements needed for the full migration and implementation effort. This pilot was a major success that ultimately saved the FBI $25K in unforeseen issues. Redesigned and configured the FBI WAN infrastructure, consisting of multiple Serial T1 and Dual Serial DS-3 circuits, Cisco 2811/3825/7204 routers with WAN accelerators, Cisco 6509/4006/3750 switches, CSU/DSU’s, TACLANE Micro encryption devices, and SFP’s/GBIC modules. Personally led a team of four engineers to 42 covert locations nationwide. Successfully configured network encryption, DMVPN tunnels, switched VLANs, and routing protocols in order to “hot cut” circuits to IP/MPLS with Verizon coordination. Tested and accepted the new circuits with Fluke’s EtherScope Series II Network Assistant to ensure that flexible per-region load balancing provided the most secure cost effective network operation.
