About Matthew Cook
I have immersed myself for many years training in audiovisual systems, and enjoy the challenge of learning and playing with new technologies as they emerge. Starting in sound reinforcement for churches as a young teenager, I began to focus more on vision systems and projection upon starting at the Cairns Convention Centre. I became an invaluable all-rounder within the operations team, eventually becoming an operations supervisor on the floor and back-filling senior coordinator roles in both the IT and event production teams.I served as a Clinical Training Technical Support Officer with James Cook University’s College of Medicine and Dentistry MedTech team where I worked specifically in the clinical school based at the Cairns Hospital supporting admin staff and 180 medical students in their 4th, 5th and 6th years of medical training. I also supported the JCUGP training team based at the Cairns City Campus.I divided my time equally across both IT and AV arenas where I filled a role of first-line IT support for the local teams, before logging the more serious concerns in the ServiceNow platform. I was the primary contact for AV support for College of Medicine teaching sessions in Cairns, and I contributed in a small way to the running of clinical simulation sessions particularly around exam times. My skills have grown to include a sharper focus on video conferencing, audiovisual control systems and writing specifications for audiovisual projects and end-user guides.More recently I have begun providing all round IT support to White Rock State School, completing Department of Education Orange Card School Administration certification. For over 15 years, I was responsible for the audiovisual systems of my local church and training and leading its volunteers in the correct use of such systems.Growing up with computers, my digital life began on Windows 95 and I have used every version through to Windows 11. I am proficient in office products as well as other popular software applications such as AdobeCC, MS Teams and Zoom. I am familiar with Apple devices including the Mac OSX environment. Building my first few PCs from parts I also became familiar with the inner workings of the hardware. My passion for audiovisual systems, and all things technical, drives me to achieve the best I can in my technical roles. I enjoy working both within a team or autonomously when objectives of a role or project are clearly defined. In addition, I enjoy taking the initiative to solve problems or improve work processes where I can see a need.
Listed skills include Sound, Av, Event Management, Lighting, and 15 others.
