About Tara Cooper
I believe that we all have so much potential. I currently enjoy working with children who are learning to read (or struggling with reading). There is a very specific process that is proven to help children to become confident readers and writers. (some call it the Science of Reading) I personally believe that one of the oldest proven approaches is Orton-Gillingham as it brings a depth and it engages students in their learning journey. As we bring in multi-sensory approaches as well as guided and prescribed lessons based on the mastery of the individual child and the skills to learn next...we can help in all areas of the reading and writing process. In order to be a confident reader a child needs to master the following skills: 1. phonemic awareness (smallest unit of sound)2. phonics/word reading (ability to decode words and to read non-decodable words)3. fluency (speed and accuracy)4. vocabulary (understanding the meaning of words, as well as suffixes and prefixes)5. comprehension (understanding longer texts, sentences and paragraphs)I look forward to supporting your earliest reader!

Part-time hours from home creates more than my full time salary I made as a teacher (when I was full time).

Taught and postively influenced children ages 4-13. Belief in themselves was the most important lesson I taught! While I raised my children I was out of the traditional teaching workforce for approximately 11 years. (from 2011-2022). During this time I was still teaching outside of the SCDSB through volunteering opportunities and private teaching. In 2022, I returned to the work force as a teacher, part-time (while continuing private teaching and home based businesses).
