Author, Editorial Consultant, Picture Researcher And Web Content Editor
I've worked with LKP on a variety of projects since 2004 – as an author, picture researcher, editorial consultant and web content editor. I was approached by LKP to help facilitate the launch of its new website – the project had run into difficulties and I worked very hard to get things back on track, bringing in Playne Design, whom I worked closely with to create a beautiful content-rich, user-friendly and fully-responsive site which launched in June 2018. This was a complex project which had to address the different needs of each of LKP’s four editorial departments. The site consists of separate sites for the US and UK markets, five homepages, two blog sections and an e-commerce section for the entire LKP catalogue consisting of 500+ products, which was integrated with both US and UK warehouses. I created and uploaded the content for the whole site, created original editorial features for the different sections, organised the product photography and image uploading, tested the site prior to launch and deal with troubleshooting for the period after.
Founder And Editor
Grafik magazine was dedicated to showcasing the very best in graphic design and visual culture and attracted a loyal readership within the design industry. I instigated a major redesign and rebrand of the print magazine (then Graphics International) in 2003, and in 2005 I was part of a team of three which set up Grafik Ltd to publish the magazine independently. As well as being responsible for the magazine’s content and editorial direction, its editorial budget, and overseeing its design, production, distribution and subscriptions, I played a key role in all aspects of running the business (including finance, HR and marketing). For its 100th and 150th issues, I edited two publications – Grafik 100 and Grafik 150 – featuring contributions from some of the world’s leading designers. I also edited the publication Letterform Collected which was a compilation of Grafik’s popular Letterform column, and curated Felt-Tip, a publication and accompanying exhibition of original marker pen posters. As editor of grafik.net (the online version of Grafik magazine), I was responsible for creating exciting, engaging and relevant editorial content across all platforms, and deciding on Grafk’s overall editorial direction and tone of voice. These stories were promoted through Grafik’s popular social media channels and its weekly newsletter, both of which I managed. I curated and produced four seasons of Grafik’s sell-out Letterform Live event, making typography fun and accessible to a younger audience while still appealing to experts in the field. I secured sponsorship, sourced leading industry speakers and promoted ticket sales through newsletters and social media.
Visiting Lecturer
Working in the School of Creative Arts teaching the Critical and Cultural Studies module and supervising groups of thirty first, second and third-year BA graphics and illustration students; helping with their essays and dissertations, and marking the final pieces. Also carrying out portfolio reviews as part of the Professional Practice module.
