I don't (officially) manage people, and I don't want to manage people. I want to write, and that's what I do. Not exactly 24/7, but close!Until a few years ago, I wrote all product copy, landing-page copy, product-video copy, SEO copy, and printed-catalog copy for ChampionUSA.com, the direct-to-consumer branch of Champion Athleticwear. In March 2013, I transitioned to another HanesBrands direct-to-consumer business -- JustMySize.com -- where I do much the same thing. In my early years at HanesBrands, I wrote product / SEO copy for OneHanesPlace.com, JustMySize.com, and Hanes.com, among others. In addition, I write subject lines and copy for opt-in e-mails (text and graphic).My chief professional interests at HanesBrands are: (1) persuasive eCommerce copywriting, with an emphasis on benefit-oriented product copy designed to close the sale; (2) conversion optimization; and (3) SEO copywriting.

Same as my Senior Copywriter position: The titles are functionally interchangeable. Mainly: eCommerce copywriting, SEO copywriting, catalog writing / management.

Conceptualized and wrote advertising print campaigns and collateral for BB&T, Wachovia, Piedmont Opera, and other area clients.

Researched and wrote a quarterly loyalty-program newsletter for Lowe's preferred credit-card holders.

Freelance copywriting

Created concepts and wrote direct-response copy for a range of clients, including R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, Topsider Homes, Mantis Manufacturing, and Edgar Broyhill Furniture.

NOTE: The Evergreen Advertising agency where I worked during the '80s is NOT to be confused with the agency of the same name currently based in Australia. The latter sounds like a great shop, but it's not where I worked. That said....I owe a lot to Evergreen. It's where I cut my teeth on classic direct response. It's where I learned the direct-mail trade from the late Bob "Fis" Fisler, former Corporate VP at (then-)Time Inc. -- the man who built *Sports Illustrated* into a circulation powerhouse and launched *People* Magazine onto an unsuspecting world. It's where I learned how to write 6 X 9 direct-mail packages, complete with four-page letter, "bedspread" brochure, reply card, and pub note. It's where I wrote a test package for *Weight Watchers Magazine* that blew the control out of the proverbial water. (Thank you, Fis, for the guidance!) It's where I got to write DM packages, how-to videos, print ads, and self-mailers for products ranging from rototillers to sun rooms to magazines. They say direct mail is dying, but I believe the lessons I learned at Evergreen are still valid and still valuable -- especially for eCommerce, which (like DM) goes directly to the consumer and closes the sale.

Worked as a copywriter for the ElHi (elementary-high school) division of textbook publisher D.C. Heath. Wrote direct-mail letters, sales brochures, collateral, and "frontmatter" (don't ask; you don't want to know) designed to help persuade state textbook adoption committees to adopt elementary textbook series such as Heath Math.

Wrote sales brochures and print ads designed to persuade college professors to adopt Little, Brown's textbooks for their classes. (Little, Brown's College Textbook Division was eventually dissolved; but, during my tenure there, it was one of Little, Brown's most successful divisions. No, I am not claiming any credit for this. :D )
