As a special education teacher, my job responsibilities include comprehending evaluation and making determinations based on data, assessing students' skills and determining their educational needs, and adapting general education classroom lessons to meet students' needs through appropriate accommodations. My responsibilities also include developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for each student, facilitating activities that are specific to each student's abilities, and creating schedules that foster small group and one-on-one instruction to meet student’s needs. Through being a North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Project CREED (Culturally Responsive Exceptional Educators for Diversity)) Scholar, I have learned the importance of being a culturally competent general and special educator teacher who can effectively deliver data-based intensive intervention instruction in high need school districts, high poverty and low performing schools in diverse communities. Education has always been my passion and I look forward to my journey through the public education school system.
