Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the External Relations & Advocacy Advisor supports relationship building and advocacy with other levels of government and Indigenous communities and provides leadership in facilitating partnerships to advance community development opportunities within the Regional District. This position will provide corporate leadership and strategic guidance to build organizational capacity regarding Indigenous culture, processes, engagement, reconciliation and partnership development.Primary Responsibilities: Develops and maintains resilient working relationships with each of the First Nations in the Thompson-Nicola region.Supports relationship building and provides strategic advocacy in support of the Regional Districts’ Strategic Plan with all levels of government, Indigenous communities, and external agencies as appropriate.Leads the development and execution of Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) advocacy priorities and supports ongoing relationships and projects with Local Government Leadership Academy (LGLA) and the Southern Interior Local Government Association (SILGA) with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Collaborates with First Nations and community partners to develop programs that encourage learning, engagement and partnerships such as the creation of a Youth Board of Directors. Provides recommendations to the Regional District Senior Management Team on policies and procedures related to relationships with local First Nations.Plays a key role in negotiating legal agreements between the Regional District and local First Nations.Advises staff working in all departments of TNRD on appropriate engagement activities with local First Nations, including for example, in relation to Regional Districts’ capital projects, ongoing operations and maintenance matters, and long-term planning initiatives.

Working independently but takes direction from and reports directly to the Natural Resource Manager, with regards to the tasks and activities that are required to maintain the responsibilities of the position. The Simpcw G2G Coordinator will act as a liaison and primary point of contact between the Simpcw Council, Simpcw technical staff, Qwelmínte Secwepemc (QS) staff and signatories, and where required the Province, by communicating and coordinating the various strategic initiatives and work required to successfully advance the implementation of the QS G2G Letter of Commitment (LOC). The Simpcw G2G Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that Simpcw is fulfilling its participatory role and commitments to the LOC at the highest standard possible.Specifically, the Simpcw G2G Coordinator is responsible for conducting tasks that will ensure the overall purpose, operational goals and objectives of each of the strategic initiatives and commitments as per the LOC, as well as other relevant tasks that may be assigned from time to time, are completed within respective timelines and budgets. The Simpcw G2G Coordinator will work closely and collaboratively with the various interjurisdictional tables provided for under the LOC.

As a Constituency Assistant I am a confidential employee responsible for the administration of the Constituency Office of a Member of the Legislative Assembly. Under the general supervision of the MLA, my duties include aiding and advocating for constituents in their dealings with the provincial government, either directly or through appropriate referrals. Supporting the MLA’s work within their communities through community outreach and liaison. Providing information to constituents about provincial government legislation and policies, including the MLA and government’s position on provincial issues. Preparing communications materials, including advertising, householders, and mailings by the MLA, newsletters, websites, and social media accounts. Managing the day-to-day operations of the Constituency Office, including correspondence, bookkeeping, information management and other office duties, as required.

As director of field operations, I was responsible for supporting the development of a comprehensive field plan, including how to recruit new supporters to join the BC Liberal Party to support Michael and persuade current members of the party to support Michael. My duties also included developing a field network of organizers and operatives to carry out the plan by:recruiting key field volunteers, with a goal of identifying a riding organizer in each riding, through frequent phone calls, virtual meetings, and in-person meet-ups with potential volunteers. Maintaining a province-wide dashboard of riding contacts and the state of play in the field, mentoring and motivating our riding organizers to sign up members, host local events, and be knowledgeable resource people on what we need to know about their ridings (where to go, who to see, important organizations to connect with, etc). Hosting regular field organizer meetings and seeking out intel about what is happening in the fields as well as liaising with external stakeholders like BC Liberal Party regional directors, organizers, and riding presidents/associations, who may or may not choose to stay 'neutral', to strengthen our relationships. Additionally, support general campaign activities including (but not limited to): event logistics for tour events 'in the field' get-out-the-vote efforts, and youth organizing.
