From the Children and Families Lab website: “The Children and Families Lab studies the development of both adaptive and maladaptive outcomes in children. Our research examines how individual differences in children and parents contribute to the development of emotion regulation and aspects of the parent-child relationship. We are also interested in the role of the father in his child’s development, something that is less studied than the role of the mother. We use longitudinal designs and multiple methods in order to examine social and emotional development. Our current, longitudinal study involves 4-, 6-, and 8-month old infants and their parents. Parents complete questionnaires about themselves and their infant and participate in various play tasks with their children in the lab (located in GRH). Cardiac physiology is collected on the parent and the infant.” ----------------------Being a psychological sciences major with a concentration in clinical psychology, I believe that a study like this one will serve as an excellent asset to my completion of the clinical concentration during my undergraduate career. I know that understanding the behaviors in young children during early childhood along with gaining experience in observing certain verbal and nonverbal cues within this study are all things that would serve as useful in my clinical psychology concentration as well as a potential future career involving child psychology.

In the summers of 2014 and 2015, I have been blessed enough to return to WKU's prestigious journalism camp, Xposure, as an alumna and a writing assistant. During this week-long, summer workshop, I spent my time helping high school students research, craft, and edit their stories that would later be published in the workshop's newspaper, "Limited Edition." I was one of the several high school students selected to attend Xposure in the summer of 2013, and one of the two students selected to receive a scholarship (the Carter-Katayama journalism scholarship). I am thankful for the opportunities this program has given me, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to it in the future!
