As a WWOOFer at a start-up permaculture farm, "TreeHuggers Permaculture Oasis," I had the opportunity to immerse myself in sustainable agriculture and play an active role in creating a thriving community-driven food ecosystem that changed my life. With a focus on permaculture principles, I cleared land by hand and assisted in designing and implementing a food forest, market gardens, and sprouting operation. My hands-on experience included harvesting and processing lumber, building tables from repurposed pallets, and constructing shade houses using Maleluica and palm fronds for our nursery. This unique experience allowed me to put more practice into the teachings of permaculture pioneers such as Bill Mollison, David Holmgren, and Masanobu Fukuoka, who inspired us to strive for an autonomous and regenerative food system. I continued to evolve with this knowledge within my family's land and am forever grateful for the relationships and community built through the experience.
