Designed and implemented a coordinated control strategy for a three cam phaser system (intake, exhaust, pre-combustion chamber purge) on a single cylinder engine equipped with a pre-combustion chamber and capable of running on hydrogen, gasoline, and kerosene.Implemented, modified, and tested road surface friction estimation algorithms under various operating conditions in high fidelity full vehicle driving simulations using IPG CarMaker.Modified and reprogrammed a diesel engine test stand to allow the engine air charge system’s actuators (variable geometry turbine, exhaust gas recirculation valve, etc.) and added electric compressor (eBoost) and bypass valve to be controlled by a standalone MotoTron computer.Augmented the engine test stand with sensors and reprogrammed its controller to allow feedback of pressure, temperature, and emissions data for use in closed-loop control.Integrated engine test stand dyno controls, MotoTron control module, and production control module into a single system for unified control of the test stand by a single strategy.Designed and implemented a dual-output PID air charge control strategy for a diesel engine equipped with a prototype eBoost and bypass valve in simulation and experimentally, improving boost pressure response by up to 55% and reducing transient NOx emissions by up to 42% compared to the production controller without eBoost in experimental tests.Designed and implemented a switching, gain-scheduled linear quadratic tracking with integration (LQTI) controller for a diesel engine air charge system with eBoost and validated it in simulation and experimentally, achieving up to 81% faster boost pressure response than the production controller, and 57% faster than the previous dual-output PID strategy with eBoost.Designed a linear parameter-varying (gain-scheduling) controller for a diesel engine air charge system and validated it in simulation studies, the next step is experimental validation.

Analyzed product warranty claim data to determine root cause of issues and discover potentially unknown issues in vehicles in the marketplace.Participated in scramble investigations and duplication testing to collect and analyze data for furthering understanding of new issues as they are discovered.Investigated transmission-related delivery claims at a major vehicle factory to determine root cause of issues and best course of action for repair.Evaluated transmission and transmission controls-related drivability of new vehicles to identify possible sources of customer complaints.Improved efficiency of reporting using Excel, PHP and MySQL to automate data organization and reduce possibility of human input errors.Performed Japanese/English interpretation within the company, in meetings with customers, and for Japanese dispatch workers outside of work.
