My current employment is for a civil contracting company. The area I’m particularly involved in within the company is tarmacadam operations. One day I may be tarring a main road and the next, tarring a driveway. Before the tar can be laid, the area of ground must be built up using hardcore and packed using compaction equipment such as rollers. The Job also involves laying kerbs, slabs and setting access lids to sewage and water pipes. Cement is required to be mixed to secure the kerbs, slabs and lids and so this is another responsibility of mine. The job is very fast paced and depends highly on good teamwork as the tar must be laid, shaped and compact all before it starts cooling down and harden.

Job Description: I commenced my training through the training provider Clyde Marine Training and was sponsored by CalMac Ferries LTD. However, all my shipboard experience took place on Northern Marine Management LTD vessels. Throughout my 8 months onboard, I sailed on LNG, LPG tankers and Ro-Ro ferries.
