Corey has had a passion for emergency management since he joined his local fire department in 2008. Within the Sidney Fire Department, Corey has responded to all manners of emergencies and as such has extensive first-hand knowledge of on-the-ground operations and the importance of emergency preparedness on an individual level.Corey has graduated from the Bachelor of Emergency & Security Management Studies program from the Justice Institute of British Columbia, a one of a kind degree within Canada. Corey is also certified as an Associate Business Continuity Professional by the Disaster Recovery Institute. As an Emergency Management/Business Continuity consultant, Corey specializes in safety & security for major events, social media for emergency management, and expediting business recovery after a disaster. Corey has created emergency exercise scenarios for a variety of stakeholders including the Victoria International Airport and the Department of National Defense.In addition to his consulting activities, Corey is a Team Leader and provides strategic guidance for CanVOST, Canada’s first and only Social Media support organization for communities nation-wide. Through CanVOST Corey has participated in response activities during the Alberta Floods of 2013, as well as in the recent CAUSE 3 collaboration between Canada and the United States.

I maintain partnerships and contact with relevant agencies during a disaster and report any significant operational changes to the Humanity Road team. I am prepared to work in place of the Incident Commander to organize a coherent digital response to any significant disaster. During the Nepal Earthquake (2015) I was assigned as Case Management Coordinator with Humanity Road. In this role I was assigned to follow specific cases, facilitate resolution, and report the resolution to stakeholders. During the Nepal activation I was able to create international partnerships between on-the-ground organizations and North American based Aid Agencies. These partnerships resulted in the delivery of medical supplies to hospitals in Kathmandu. Working efficiently in a dynamic environment, creating useful relationships, and finding solutions to problems are all keys to success in this role.
