Through my undergraduate experience, my time spent learning was mostly experiential. I've participated in fraternal business, directed and organized the WT Pep Band, managed the WTAMU Trombone Studio Instagram account, and founded and directed a non-profit youth program for trombone students in the Texas Panhandle.These mediums provided me the opportunity to make mistakes, learn, and grow. This environment cultivated an understanding for the importance of sacrifice for the fulfillment of ones own goals and the betterment of others. Through my youth group, the WTAMU Buff Bone Initiative, I have gained experience uncommon for the undergraduate. I organized a group in the Spring of 2022 of ten high school students from five different Panhandle schools. We put on a concert later that semester which earned us a featured performance at the Big XII Trombone Conference at Texas Tech University. During our preparation, we sent in recordings to the International Trombone Association and were invited to perform at the 2023 International Trombone Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah in July. After our success at the Big XII, the group nearly doubled in size to nineteen students from eight different high schools and one junior high. I headed a consortium for a new piece to be written for the bass trombone with trombone octet accompaniment. I worked with LA based composer, Adrienne Albert, to bring her music to life which culminated with the creation of "Moment to Moment". The process included raising a considerable sum through multiple consortium members from trombone professors to musicians in the highest performing positions. I also raised funds through donations from local organizations, businesses, and my university. I premiered the piece with the Buff Bone Initiative at the Big XII with our soloist and UNT doctoral candidate, Clayton Yoshifuku, who had recently won the bass trombone position with the Amarillo Symphony.In preparation for the ITF, I have raised funds for the students to attend the Youth Workshop and scheduled two professional guest artists to teach masterclasses and trombone choir coaching.
