    I determined the financial risk of Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), an electric utility with hydropower capacity, due to drought and heat waves using a West Coast power systems model and PG&E business model in Python. I designed and tested novel financial instruments (i.e., index insurance) to manage these impacts. In addition, I characterized the financial impacts of pollution taxes on PG&E.

    Working with UNC's stormwater engineers, I calculated nitrogen and phosphorus reductions from proposed stormwater control measures using ArcGIS and the NC DEQ SNAP spreadsheet tool. I also projected non-potable water demand on campus using Python and Excel. I wrote a program in Python to determine the average water use intensity of different building types on campus (e.g. classrooms, residence halls, etc.) using past data. I was responsible for updating spreadsheets, updating GIS feature classes, and writing project reports.

    I produced test cables and connectors for the MAJORANA DEMONSTRATOR, a neutrinoless double-beta decay experiment. This work took place in a clean room due to the purity requirements of the experiment. I helped to determine the efficiency of scintillator panels and the muon flux through Phillips Hall, which will be utilized in the production of an assay system at the University of North Carolina. I also wrote a program using GEANT4 that simulates the assay system in order to determine the sensitivity of the design.
