I spent over ten years working at leading research and clinical institutes including Johns Hopkins University, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and the University of Denver digging into all the articles, best practices, science and application of student development looking at everything from how the brain functions, student performance in the classroom, to best practices for closing student performance gaps.And I loved every minute of it... until I realized I wanted to create a bigger, more tangible impact.To not only understand why students performed the way they did but to be part of the solution. I wanted to create a different outcome for struggling students. I wanted to build something that would allow me to continue to work with students and impact real meaningful change without a multi-year wait list.That’s why I started our private education center, Ascend Learning & Educational Consulting, where we work directly with students and families providing educational diagnoses such as dyslexia and dysgraphia in addition to providing research-based instruction to help get struggling students to grade level and beyond.But what I quickly realized was that while we could create massive transformation in the reading and writing skills of the students we worked with... there were still so many students who needed help who didn’t have access to it.So, I decided it was time to put everything I knew about solid, research-based instruction for struggling readers into the hands of those who needed it the most …To educators who dream of making a more meaningful and lasting impact for struggling readers in the classroom...To speech language pathologists who desire to improve their literacy support because they want to help their students in an even deeper way…To the parent who desperately wants to help their struggling child but doesn't know where to begin...
