I am passionate about geospatial data science, high performance computing, and the integration of AI into the geosciences. I live in the southern Appalachian mountains where I’ve been working remotely for companies and governments since 2015. I am a self-starter and passionate about the problems I work on. I focus on applied geoscience, most often utilizing Earth Observation data to study how natural hazards impact the built or natural environments. An increasing focus for me is the integration of advanced data science methods, specifically AI/ML developments, into classical geoscience studies.Working with a team is all about communication. I am a strong communicator and love asking questions. I always want to understand “the why.” Many years ago, a former boss taught me the value of working backwards - starting with the end in mind and backing up from there to understand key milestones and timelines to accomplish your goal. This is useful for delivering value on time, but can be challenging in the applied research space, where we often don’t know what we’ll find until we get our hands dirty in the data. It’s this tough intersection of research and application that I most often find myself in. A fun challenge!
