Enhanced visitor experience by providing formal programs (educational displays and curriculum about significant Parkway cultural and natural resources, environmental education, guided walks, and other demonstrations), and informal interpretation such as staffing Visitors Centers at Peaks of Otter and James River. Operated the Visitors Centers to provide each visitor tailored opportunities for exploring the local area, on and off the Parkway. Worked with Eastern National Association to provide educational merchandise for sale. Interacted with a variety of age groups interpreting Blue Ridge Parkway resources and presenting interpretive programs. Developed and presented school programs for grades 1-5, based on Virginia Standards of Learning and designed to create the next generation of advocates for the National Park Service. Promoted the Junior Ranger program to ensure that youth were able to learn about the importance of the Parkway in a fun and interactive manner. Ensured visitors were provided with appropriate safety messages, including road and trail conditions. Applied appropriate interpretive techniques to different visitors to ensure they received messages regarding the importance of the Blue Ridge Parkway to our human heritage and to the natural world. Developed cultural history programs and biodiversity interactive touch tables. Instrumental in producing National Public Lands Day “Music and Art in the Mountains” festival, working with the concessionaire to find speakers and develop arts and crafts curriculum highlighting the Blue Ridge area’s unique human history and traditions.
