The Head of Automation is responsible for leading the teams at our Portsmouth site who are responsible for process control systems (PCS), manufacturing execution systems (MES), 24/7 support and operations technology (OT).

The Head of Sustainability facilitates the development of site-wide sustainability goals and oversees the execution of plans, policies, programs, and practices to achieve Lonza’s commitment to our environment - to continually reduce emissions, energy, water and material consumption.Reporting to the Site Head of Engineering and Facilities, this highly visible position will act as the Sustainability Champion for the site, empowering team members to bring new ideas to help build organizational capabilities, working with our Corporate and Commercial Partners Globally to establish environmental guidance and benchmarks, and cascading this strategy across Lonza’s network, to the Portsmouth Site and to our customers.Position is accountable for the overall utilities engineering function. This includes leading the utilities engineering team, prioritizing tasks, and managing the execution of short term and long term projects and improvements. Indirect and Direct support of utilities CAPEX.This position is also responsible for managing the site’s utilities budget, performing analysis of cost, capabilities, and market trends to develop multi-year sourcing strategy for energy and fluids.

 Created strategic roadmap to increase production capacity in constrained assets Lead and develop a high-performing, cross-functional team to identify, execute and sustain improvements by leveraging new/emerging technologies and by driving lean methodologies to streamline production.

 Successfully led fastest technology transfer in Lonza’s history to produce vaccine on a commercial scale. Represented Lonza in audits with several agencies, including the FDA, Health Canada and EMA, which helped enable our customer to license their product for commercial use.  Led the engineering team from startup to steady state, producing hundreds of millions of doses of vaccine, while continuing to lead engineering team in Cell Therapy Asset, enabling each asset to achieve strategic goals and metrics. Created a high-performing team that emphasized strengths-based execution, accountability, open communication, people development and continuous improvement. This team was comprised of Plant, Project, Controls, and Automation (MES) Engineers. This team was also responsible for managing CapEx, Facilities, Maintenance, and Calibrations/Metrology. Provided leadership to resolve critical issues impacting manufacturing operations in collaboration with stakeholders.

 Enabled Cell Therapy asset to transition from engineering runs into GMP/clinical production by supporting multiple technology transfers, increasing asset capabilities, and by driving standardization & continuous improvements across all functions. Overhauled/established new maintenance strategy and cadence, which included risk management & revisions to global guidance on cleaning, environmental monitoring/sampling, and cross-contamination control.

 Head of Engineering, CapEx, Utilities, Sustainability, Facilities, Waste Treatment / Biogas Production, Systems Technology and Maintenance for site.  Responsible for complying to environmental regulations (water, wastewater, air emissions) and for reducing GHG. Senior Leadership Team member, responsible for developing Site Master Plan, cascading and executing site strategic goals, and enabling continuous growth in order to achieve Site/Global KPIs/metrics. Set sustainability benchmarks for North American zone by achieving record low electrical and water usage.

 Responsible for operation of the packaging lines at Cartersville brewery. Responsibilities include: maintaining high standards for safety and quality (0 unsafe behaviors, GMPs, Cons. Complaints, HACCP, Micro), development/execution of strategic plan, develop/train BPMs/GMs, manpower/staffing templates for dept, VPO/lean implementation/sustainability, operating budgets, production schedules, line speeds and more.  Execution of strategic plans and packaging initiatives contributed to increase of GLY (5.8%), LEF (3.3%), SUP (3.3%) and MTBF (39%/7%) and a decrease in Consumer Complaints by 25% in 2016/2017. Sole producer of emergency drinking water at Anheuser-Busch to provide disaster relief. Responsible for implementation, certification and qualification of over 30 new products. Served as interim Operations Manager through summer/peak season of 2017 and finished in top quartile performance through summer and YTD. Dept comprised of 200+ full time operators/technicians and 25+ managers and engineers. Responsible for accelerated RUP, and sustainability (PMs, SOPs, etc.) of $10MM packer installation in 2017.  Completed Packaging Capstone Project to drive GLY/LEF/SUT/SUP/MTBF/VIC by changing and implementing new routines for: shutdown maintenance, T-minus planning, manpower strategy, blocked beer rework process, modulation execution.

- Led team to achieve >90 LEF for 3 consecutive months. Achieved 7 of top 10 record runs for CL10 in 2015-6 through LBO, maintenance planning and various process improvements− Led team to develop and standardize several reaction plans through use of PIs, SICs, and OWDs.− Benchmark for handling related consumer complaints through implementation of top hold downs, soft handling, and through emphasis of quality with operators− Assumed Tech Service GM responsibilities in addition to normal roles and responsibilities due to staffing constraints.

Responsible for qualification and control of lab equipment and inline instrumentation throughout brewery.Leads self-directed team of analysts to use lean manufacturing tools in order to improve efficiency and organization.Audits sampling frequencies to ensure that business unit and brewery are compliant with company minimum frequencies and requirements.Manages maintenance of lab equipment.Monitors trending of brewing process for potential upsets and works with brewing department to develop short-term and long-term solutionsLeads micro team in troubleshooting/root cause analysis (RCA) to remedy issues in brewing and packaging/operations process.Responsible for HACCP pre-requisite program (PRP) audits on brewing department. Logistics, Shipping, and Receiving•Created/Approved SOPs & OPLs to expedite un/loading, decrease inventory discrepancies, improve material storage, and reduce potential for mis-shipments of imported products. •Identified a significant source of scalebacks and low shipment weights and created & implemented solutions to get to the root causes of these issues, which helped the Merrimack Brewery finish achieve the highest average shipment weights of any ABI brewery in the US in 2012•Worked to implement new storage system for blocked beer, which drastically improved the traceability of blocked product Packaging•Improved production capabilities by addressing bottlenecks with in the packaging process by working with team of operators, palletizer & wrapper representatives, maintenance technicians, and reliability managers to: identify, prioritize, and repair problems with the palletizers, broken bottle detectors and wrappers. This increased our equipment uptime by 7% from 2011 to 2012, exceeding our target uptime. •Created SOPs, OPLs and Conversion sheets to ensure that equipment in battery limits was being operated properly to eliminate gaps in uptime. •Equipment within battery limits included the: keg packaging line, the can/bottle line palletizers & wrappers, and the bottle line depallitizers. Optimization of Labor•Worked in a team to clearly define and implement a new set of Roles and Responsibilities for the Logistics department.•Project Lead of OpTech for the Logistics Department•Led a team to build a SharePoint for a self-directed workforce. This included creating, compiling, and implementing numerous RACIs, Checklists, Process Maps, Decision Trees, Process Maps, Presentations, and more. •Became the second Logistics Department in the US to achieve Tier 1 certification, and established solid foundation for next steps of OpTech implementation. •Created an SIC to track the (non-quantifiable) performance of operators.

Responsible for the production of polymers with specialization in production and the R&D of Reactive Liquid-Liquid Extraction Systems and reported results to successfully obtain research grants. Developed process map for facility and helped to develop 10x scale-up of production facility.Lab and production experience with reactive and non-reactive separation methods, various methods of chemical analysis, waste removal, heat transfer, and process engineering (e.g. chromatography, various distillation methods, crystallization, liquid-liquid extraction systems, absorption & adsorption columns, CSTRs, TFRs, etc.).

•Installed circuitry for commercial, industrial, and residential applications and effectively troubleshot problems with equipment and circuitry. o Wired transformers, motors, panels, solenoids and other various industrial equipment and electronics•Attended electrical apprenticeship school for two years.
