Corey Arnold Email and Phone Number
I'm a writer and game designer with an educational background in literature. I use novel technologies to enhance stories and create memorable experiences grounded in strong design practice. You can find my portfolio at coreywaite.com.Currently I work as a Narrative Designer at Blue Bottle Games, the award winning studio and developer of the cult hit Neo Scavenger. Together with founder Daniel Fedor and a very small team, I am writing and designing Ostranauts, a hard sci-fi follow up to Neo Scavenger. In my previous role as Program Manager of the Entrepreneurial Game Studio at Drexel University I was responsible for managing large, interdisciplinary academic game projects from inception to research to funding to implementation and finally onto reporting and program growth. I have written and successfully funded research-based grant proposals for both government agencies (NSF, NEH) and arts foundations (William Penn Foundation, Knight Foundation) and managed teams with as many as a dozen faculty, students and staff executing game projects on 1-3 year timelines with budgets exceeding $300k.Outside of project management I have worked as a freelance designer and writer for games-based projects that have national and international reach. I have written curriculum and workbook text for a MasterClass.com course taught by a world-renowned instructor in the Sports & Games field. I served as the lead designer of "Vibes," a site-specific mobile game built for the Philadelphia Museum of Art that won the Grand Prize of the Dina Wind Power of Art Hackathon. My short story "Near Death" was selected by author Joyce Carol Oates to be personally work-shopped on camera as part of her course "The Art of The Short Story."In addition to my work in game design I have a background teaching English across a broad range of ages and abilities. I spent two years in a remote village in the mountains of Japan teaching English as a Foreign Language to Elementary School and Jr. High School students as part of the JET Programme. I have taught college writing, reading and composition in universities throughout the Philadelphia region. Finally, I serve on the leadership team of the Philly Game Mechanics, the city's oldest indie dev group, where I run game jams, deliver talks, and plan for the future of the community.
