Leadership And Team Coach, MdVisibly Different LtdBristol, England, Gb -
Leadership & Team Coach, MdVisibly Different Ltd Sep 2020 - PresentBristol, England, United KingdomDriving for high performance won't create an environment where people feel valued. It's an environment where people feel valued and that drives high performance. This approach runs through all my work with teams and leaders—whether it’s facilitating feedback sessions with teams or coaching senior leaders. The impact shows up in how teams function and the results we see in the boardroom. But what keeps me coming back are the personal stories: transformed relationships, boosts in confidence, and overcoming challenges that once seemed impossible."This is probably the single most powerful thing I’ve done in many years. It’s given me a powerful tool in my toolbox and the confidence to make positive lasting changes.."Dave Davies | CTO - DVS Delivering Vision -

With some insights and a little bit of guidance from us, our clients are able to continually improve their employee experience, evolving into learning organisations that are more adaptive and ready for change. We help teams become more proficient in the areas that will make the biggest difference for them. -
Leadership & Team Coach, DirectorSpring Leadership Ltd 2014 - Aug 2020Bristol, United KingdomTogether with Steve Lobley I ran “Spring Leadership” where I helped businesses that were transitioning to the next stage of growth. Often leaders are ready to bring on the next generation of leaders, but get stuck in doing everything themselves.I get a thrill when my clients make changes which enable them to get results personally, with their people, and within their businesses.“There are many programmes that teach skills, but only with Spring Leadership have I been on one that changes the way you think”- Nick Sydenham, Lead Solution Architect, DXC -
Team Coach For Senior Teams In Growing BusinessesSpring Leadership Ltd 2014 - 2020Bristol, United KingdomHow does your senior team operate? The performance, effectiveness (and attitude) of your senior team directly affects the results of your business. That may seem obvious. But sometimes we need to stop and think about the obvious.I believe in a holistic approach. Working with teams allows you to address the underlying, unspoken parts of company culture, strategy and processes. Alongside working with the team, individual coaching helps people flourish in the changing organisation. Our team coaching programmes get results because we listen, ask questions and help you to diagnose what the issues are and what needs to be sorted.“In our business there are so many opportunities to mess up. If you can improve decision making, accuracy and quality by 20%, or even 10%, there’s a huge financial benefit to that. And by working with Spring Leadership that’s what’s happened.” - Tim Harms, Managing Director, Touchwood -
Leadership & Executive Coach: Turning The Knowing Into DoingSpring Leadership Ltd 2014 - 2020BristolYou know you need to delegate, say no more often and go home on time. But do you know HOW to make this happen? Something has to change. I help you diagnose the issues you have and determine what options might be available to address them. I then work with you personally with regular one to one contact, or design specific interactions with your teams, or even with the organisation as a whole. By allowing the programme to fit with your schedule and how you or your business operates, we find the learning is more likely to stick."Our first cohort of emerging leaders have ALL gone on to take wider and more involved roles in our business.”— Richard Reader, Account General Manager, DXC -
Executive Coach And Trainer: Making Accredited Learning StickConverse Coaching 2013 - 2017BristolI developed and delivered leadership programmes that created change and observable results to small businesses and corporates. I’m so proud of these programmes because they developed people in organisations so they, and their businesses, could grow. It’s so easy to get ‘very satisfied’ on a happy sheet - a good lunch and nice venue and you’re halfway there. But I am more than a little obsessed with helping create real behaviour change that more than pays for any investments made in training.A high point was seeing cohorts of learners proudly receive their Leadership & Management accreditation because of the partnership I developed with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI)During this time I was collaborating with another coach and trainer and eventually this would lead to us establishing our own coaching company. -
High Growth Business Coach: Delivering Government Funded Coaching To High Growth SmesBusiness West 2011 - 2014Bristol, United KingdomDuring my time at Business West (formally Business Link) I identified High Growth SMEs that matched a specific set of funding criteria. I worked alongside the leaders to diagnose their business challenges and helped them to start asking the right questions of themselves and others. I always took a collaborative approach with other specialists to ensure my clients got the right solutions that enabled them to grow.Eventually, the landscape of funding changed and this European funded programme finally came to an end. This gave me a great opportunity to start out on my own.Cue: a healthy dose of resilience and a big slice of self-belief. -
Business Link Growth Coach: Delivering Government Funded Coaching To SmesBusiness Link 2010 - 2011The business leaders I coached accessed my support through a Government funded programme. I learned to develop and adapt my coaching approach to suit the needs of SMEs from a wide range of sectors at various stages of growth. Collaborating with my network of business support contacts meant my clients were the first to know about any funding or schemes that might support them in their growth.I also successfully achieved the first of many accredited coaching qualifications. It was a deeply demanding course, and now when I'm teaching coaching skills, I draw upon those experiences to best help my clients in their development. -
Skills Adviser: Identifying Business Owner’S Training NeedsBusiness Link 2005 - 2010I helped SMEs navigate the world of Government funded skills provision by conducting a training needs analysis and then identifying training or coaching programs to match their requirements. The support didn’t stop there, I’d next help them source the right funding.I had to build relationships with coaches, training providers and other business support organisations. I had to get a thorough understanding of each of their offerings, styles, values and experience to suggest the most suitable match to the SME I was supporting. This is where I started to see the greater impact of coaching over traditional short courses. Watching some transformational coaching made me realise this is what I wanted to do. -
Business Support Administrator: Supporting The Business Adviser TeamBusiness Link 2001 - 2002I provided support to a team of Business Advisors who were offering a range of advice to SMEs in the local business community. I really started to understand what issues business owners face and what support they need to help them thrive. I still use this experience today when I’m getting under the surface of the issues and challenges facing our clients. -
Business Support Administrator: Supporting The Introduction Of Sap Into Rolls RoyceRolls-Royce 1999 - 2001When an opportunity for a permanent role was available in the business support team I went for it and discovered my love for spreadsheets. Introducing SAP back in the day was a big deal for the company and I got to observe closely how people respond to change.By supporting the different functions in the organisation I learned about business dynamics, the relationships between the departments and the importance of clear communication at each stage of the process. -
Secretarial Support To The New Projects Engineering TeamRolls-Royce 1998 - 1999Once I obtained my degree, I wasn’t fully clear on the types of roles that would match my skills, so I asked a temping agency for help. After my stints in hospitality and the call centre, the aerospace industry exposed me to a different company culture once again. Experiencing these different industries and cultures from the inside, helps me these days in my work with a wide variety of companies. -
Talking Pages Call Handler: Answering Calls And Deciphering DialectsTalking Pages 1996 - 1998After combining my studies with the long hours and late nights in hospitality, I was ready to get rid of the split shifts. In moving from hospitality to a call centre I soon discovered that communicating without body language (some say this is 70% of the message) required me to develop a new skill set.My ability to quickly build rapport helped me to identify caller’s actual needs in a short call. This is where I learned to not always take things at face value and to dig deeper to find the question behind the question. In the end, what I loved most was training new people. Explaining not just how the systems worked, but also how to effectively communicate on the phone with (sometimes agitated) callers.

Waitressing: Multi-Tasking And Quickly Relating To People Whilst Serving Food And DrinksRestaurants And Hotels In Bath 1995 - 1998The need to fund my way through university meant getting a part-time job as soon as I arrived. I didn’t know another way, so I walked into the restaurants and hotels of Bath asking if there were any job vacancies. And of course, I didn’t appreciate at the time how much determination I must have needed, job hunting as a young student in a brand new city.My experience of waitressing in restaurants, hotels and at events is where I honed my skills for building rapport and ability to speak to just about anyone – plus I can still open a door while carrying three hot plates!
