Postgraduate Researcher
► As the leader of a doctoral research project, I am responsible for the design, coordination, monitoring, analysis and reports of laboratory studies. This work is undertaken in a quarantine facility and I am therefore trained in conducting risk assessments, developing SOPs and study protocols. I also work in close collaboration with 2 junior scientists and a team of technical staff, which requires strong interpersonal skills to ensure the completion of all concurrent studies within budget and program. Key achievements:✔ Developed and optimised 3 new techniques in partnership with internal and external scientific contacts ✔ Annual renewal of study permits and licenses✔ 2 peer-reviewed publications ✔ 2 award-winning scientific presentations
Teaching Demonstrator And Teaching Supervisor
► As a teaching supervisor, I have led and trained a team of teaching assistants, in liaison with the academic and technical staff for “Animal Health & Welfare” and “Animal Science” classes. I have managed 100+ undergraduate students in weekly laboratory practical sessions and “Ecology” field trips with great regulatory awareness, resulting in zero safety incidents.
Teaching Assistant
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, as the Université de Montréal was transitioning to online teaching, I was asked to tutor remotely, from Australia, 19 teams of 2nd year veterinary students and assist them with the planning of their assignment for the course of Veterinary Immunology. Key tasks included:✔ Teaching the pathophysiology, diagnostic and therapeutic approach of 19 clinical immunology cases, including the management of canine and feline lymphoma using chemotherapy and immunotherapy. ✔ Coordinated 20+ Zoom tutoring sessions and effectively managed a 16-hour time difference, resulting in excellent feedback from the students and a renewed contract offer from the University.
Mentee
"The IMNIS MedTech-Pharma Program matches life sciences PhD students to senior-level industry mentors in a year-long one-on-one mentoring program." ► Through this program, I learned about the veterinary pharmaceutical industry, the Australian market, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and APVMA guidelines.
Postgraduate Researcher
► My work in the Laboratory of Immunology of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was part of a research program focused on host-pathogen interactions. Through this project, I have developed an expertise in a range of immunology and microbiology techniques (cell culture and bacterial culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, Western Blot, qPCR) and conducted in vitro and in vivo studies in animal models. I was also involved in a veterinary clinical study for vaccine development against Streptococcus suis, an emerging swine and human pathogen.Key achievements: ✔️ $15K Innovation award from a veterinary pharmaceutical company✔️ 4 scientific publications ✔️ 2 award-winning conference presentations
Teaching Assistant
Veterinary Clinical Rotations
Field Research Assistant
► Dog overpopulation poses serious animal welfare issues and major threats to human health. In 2012, the community of Puerto Natales (Chile) was struggling with a large population of free-roaming dogs. A long-term management plan was therefore established in partnership with Veterinarians Without Borders - Canada and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). A key component of this plan was to determine through a research study whether chemical castration effectively reduced aggression and roaming behaviour in male dogs.
