For the past 30 years, I have been painting dramatic, gestural or ethereal landscapes. My work has consistently explored the inherent value of nature and the ability of paintings to speak about joy, hope, loss and longing. I am committed to producing art of beauty, that speaks into the hearts of my audience about our shared humanity and evokes wonder in nature.A speaker at the Katoomba TEDx conference in 2023, I share my experience of navigating through a period of artistic block back into creative flow. I explain how I learned the value of grounding into the earth to connect, how to be creative relies on showing up with courage and curiosity, conviction and commitment. I teach people how to access creative flow with reliability and ease.Currently living and working in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, Australia, I have travelled widely within Australia, Africa, Europe and the USA to research art and paint in diverse locations. I have studied painting and art history and theory extensively, both formally at Art Colleges and in my studio practice. My studio paintings draw primarily from my experiences in nature, from photographs and notes of 'events' in the landscape.The painterly techniques I use range from the immediacy of plein air and alla prima, to painstakingly applying subtle transparent and opaque layers of oil paint that build up complex relationships of colour, space and illusion. My art-making reflects a sensitivity to the fleeting, momentary changes that occur in natural phenomena. The aesthetic suggests the fragility of nature's beauty and the awesome sublimity of nature's forces.I have exhibited widely, in group and solo exhibitions in Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and Paris. Currently represented by Stella Downer Fine Art in Sydney, I regularly exhibit both in the Blue Mountains and in Australia's capital cities. In 2014 I was selected as a finalist in the NSW Parliament Plein Air Art Prize and to participate in the Hunters Hill Art Prize. My work has been commended by winning the Blackbird Art Prize, Sydney, 2000 and the Elioth Gruner Art Prize, Art Gallery New South Wales, 1999.
