I am researching alternative solutions to immediate lockouts and evictions with the intent to alleviate the economic pressure of rising housing costs for Los Angeles tenants. The median monthly rent cost in the United States has increased 21% in the last twenty years. Median wages have only increased by 2% in the same time. Until formal regulations are implemented to protect affordable housing for American workers, and until wages increase to reflect the higher costs of living, urgent legal action is needed to prevent tenants from temporary homelessness and eviction records.This research opportunity is through a graduate fellowship with Stay Housed and Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles.
