The work revolved around IVR telecommunication systems, this entails development, implementation and support of systems that can handle from a few phone calls to several million phone calls per day. Responsibilities:-Development, testing, implementation and maintenance of IVRs for a telecommunication network operator (UNIX, C++, PHP, mySQL, LINUX)-Developing scripts to automate repetitive support and operations functions (bash)-Query web-services, parse responses (SOAP, REST)-Researching open-source software to increase competitive edge.-Interfacing with customers on new and existing projects/products.-Proof of concept analysis testing for conversion from telephony to SIP protocol via third party API*.-Optimisation of a SMS gateway implementation to increase load capacity.-24/7 Technical support-Development of a real-time display via PHP and GnuPlot as monitoring system for production IVRs.*IVR: Interactive voice response*API: Application programming interface

This was mainly an on-site, customer facing position that consisted of:- the roll-out and implementation of the Redknee software suites/updates (Unified - intelligent prepaid network),- verification testing of customised software releases, using simulation tools and actual mobile handsets,- design and implementation of a remote Android testing solution, this allowed in-country test mobile phone testing outside of the target country,- technical interface between the customer and Redknee's international development team, (this cultivated a great teamwork mentality)- integration between Redknee's software and third party web services,- technical project support- software maintenance service upgrades.This position greatly improved my UNIX skill-set.

I was part of the team that tested the software used on the prepaid platforms in the Intelligent Network architecture. I were involved in several tasks to test the functionality and increase the quality of the software product.- Testing roaming and local mobile call scenarios including voice, SMS and data, under several communication protocols eg. SS7 and diameter.- Platform configuration: building media and updating platforms to the latest product and customisation software logics.- Simulation environment setup: configuring IP-routing and point codes to channel communication between network elements/nodes.- Call trace analysis and fault reporting.- Customer on-site integration testing.- Technical support to the customer.- Technical support to colleagues on various projects.

Responsibilities:I was a member of the development division and provided the interface between product development and business development.- Technical support to the marketing division.- Presentations (technical support to marketing presenter).- Tender technical interpretation & inputs.- Generation of technical documentation (User Requirement Specification documentation, production assembly documentation).- Technical presentations in Nigeria and Democratic Republic of the Congo (mobile server setup, transmission of vending reports via a roaming GPRS network and the interpretation of server reports).- Nigerian electricity metering compliance testing (preparation and demonstration of electricity prepayment meter compliance to Nigerian standards).- ESKOM specification compliance testing (preparation and demonstration of the electricity meter’s compliance to the client’s vending interface protocols).- Liaising with Indian and Nigerian clients.

I was responsible for software and hardware development on existing and new products.- Firmware development on telemeters*- Implementation of BCH** codes on microprocessor software.- Software integration of GSM modems, GPS’s and radio into the telemeter design.- Upgrading remote monitoring measurement equipment. The monitoring was done on fridges used for storing temperature sensitive supplies. Status and alarm conditions are then communicated to the client via automated GSM messages.- Testing and calibration of telemeters.- Hardware development (PCB design and layout, circuit analysis and debugging).*These telemeters are used on railway locomotives for air- and vacuum- braking systems. They communicate with each other via radio, they use GPS data for tracking purposes and GSM modems for communication to a base station.**In telemeters, BCH codes are used for their error correcting capabilities during radio communication between telemeters.
