The role of Impact Evidence Manager was a fantastic opportunity for me to lead a talented and diverse team of professionals on an exciting agenda to strengthen the evidence of impact from our programs. In this role, every day was different. One day I was engaging with technical colleagues on improving the quality and effectiveness of programs in the communities we serve. Another day I was making sense with the policy and advocacy team as to what evidence could be used to inform our thought leadership and external engagement. And amidst all this, I would engage with go-to-marketers on how to strategically influence future offerings and field projects. I loved the role as it offered varied possibilities that deeply challenged me in meaningful ways.

The opportunity to lead the Impact & Strategy team at World Vision was a real honour and privilege. This was a diverse group of highly skilled and experienced M&E, impact data and analytics professionals who were driven by a singular determination to crack the code of impact management and communication. We embedded a system for efficient capture, translation and communication of holistic impact data and credible evidence, including the following: 1) Developing the Field Impact International Strategy and enabling key shifts in implementation to ensure effective strategy realisation. 2) Supporting sustainable income growth and optimal cost recovery. 3) Embedding an evidence building framework to improve program quality, effectiveness and our ability to report impact at scale. 4) Leading systematic generation of evidence products (evaluation reports, impact briefs, meta-reviews, impact reports, research pieces) from field programs and sharing them with donors / supporters. 5) Utilising evidence assets to support external engagement and thought leadership.6) Supporting the successful delivery of the ANCP portfolio of projects, including communicating and amplifying the portfolio’s impact.7) Establishment of an information hub as the source of truth for all evidence and impact content from the field. 8) Collection and analysis of impact data relating to all WVA projects, drawing insights and sharing these with go-to-market teams and donors / supporters as part of reporting impact at scale.9) Developing an annual impact report that highlights our overall view of impact based on consolidated reach data and evidence narratives.

This included collaborating with other World Vision peers on global initiatives that reinforce evidence collection, analysis and communication. a) Coordinated the design and rollout of an approach for measuring achievement of project outcomes, including sharing learning and utilization of insights to improve quality of programming and impact. b) Contributed technical inputs into the formulation of World Vision Australia’s impact goals in alignment with the World Vision global strategy as well as the sustainable development goals (SDGs). c) Supported the World Vision campaign to raise AUD250 million from impact-driven philanthropists and bring lasting change for more than 10 million vulnerable people in Africa, Australia and Asia-Pacific.d) Strengthened tools for collecting and communicating evidence of impact, e.g. baseline, monitoring and evaluation processes. e) Provided quality assurance and M&E support on designs, M&E plans, baselines, and evaluations.

Led strategy development and implementation across World Vision offices in the following countries in Southern Africa: Angola; Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC); Eswatini, Lesotho; Malawi; Mozambique; South Africa; Zambia; and Zimbabwe. This included guiding the translation of country strategic plans into impactful and sustainable technical programs in sectors such as Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), Health & Nutrition, Livelihoods & Resilience, Education, Child Protection and Humanitarian Response. a) Supported country offices to shape their strategies in alignment with the global strategy while at the same time effectively responding to their unique contextual realities.b) Successfully led the change management work-stream to establish a shared service model for two country offices. c) Supported country offices through strategy-programming change processes, including translation of strategies into appropriate technical programmes to scale up impact.d) Co-led the design and piloting of guidance tools for mapping the most vulnerable children across country offices. The tools were adopted for use globally. e) Coordinated portfolio investment planning and enterprise risk management (ERM) processes across country offices in line with global guidance. f) Coordinated annual business planning and ongoing review of country office performance by the leadership team. g) Monitored key humanitarian and development trends to support country office and regional strategic decisions. h) Led the development of common metrics for measuring the reach and impact of World Vision.i) Supported the development of strategy implementation and M&E capacity in country offices.

Founded HROD Africa in 2005 as a boutique strategy consulting firm in Botswana. Supported several governments, government agencies, private businesses and not-for-profits across Southern African to effectively execute their strategies. This included diagnosing root causes of issues and helping management teams to develop tangible data-based solutions that solve complex problems in an agile and sustainable manner. The firm grew to become a reputable boutique provider of strategic solutions in Botswana and Southern Africa. As head of HROD Africa, I successfully delivered strategy and performance management systems for more than 20 Government of Botswana departments and agencies. This is a well-referenced case study on successful implementation of a strategic performance management system as a whole-of-government approach to improve service delivery. The National Employment Council (NEC) for the Motor Industry of Zimbabwe is the nationwide legal body governing collective bargaining processes for the entire motor industry. As Chief Executive Officer, Cornelius oversaw NEC collective bargaining, compliance and smooth implementation of collective bargaining agreements. He also managed the implementation of an investment policy for the Motor Industry Pension Fund thus growing the fund’s investment portfolio. In addition, he introduced a performance-based incentive scheme for the industry.

Aroma Bakeries, a subsidiary of TA Holdings Limited, was the biggest bakery in the 1990s to early 2000. As Divisional Personnel Manager, Cornelius guided the contextualisation and implementation of Group human resources strategy and related policies. He also advised senior and line management on effective implementation of HR management policies. Cornelius was also an executive member of National Bakeries Association, and an employer representative in industry-wide collective bargaining.

TA Holdings Limited (TA) is an investment company with interests in the hospitality, insurance and agrochemical, asset management and distribution industries. In 1991, Cornelius started his career in human resources management as a Human Resources Officer for one of the subsidiary companies (TA Electric). In January 1993 he was promoted to the role of Human Resources Manager. He led the development and implementation of Group HR strategy, policies and procedures. He avised Group companies on effective implementation of HR management policies.His main achievement was the designed and implementation of a group performance management system (PMS).
