About S. Cornell Allen
My experience has covered the breadth of architectural project development, but my strength is in production and construction administration phases. I enjoy mentoring younger professionals, in order to pass on knowledge that I've acquired and to build up other members of my teams. I'm a strong believer in collaborative problem-solving in design and during production and construction. (None of us has all the answers, but assembling insights from various perspectives and points of expertise improves the quality of the outcomes that we all seek.)Mentoring and teaching are important to me, both in the context of my professional role as an architect, and as an adjunct instructor at Red Rocks Community College since 2013. I'm also a member of the department advisory board. I've taught different courses but specialized in sustainable building systems. In recent years I've brought more building science into my teaching, as sustainable buildings must be functional and resilient as well as energy efficient and context-appropriate.My work has included roles in new design and renovation of collegiate student life facilities. I'm most proud of a complete renovation of Colorado State University's Corbett-Parmelee Dining Facility and construction of the Williams Village Dining Commons at the University of Colorado Boulder. I have also led production for numerous K-12 school projects in the Denver metro area (many of them modernization and renovation), projects in the Belmar community and other housing developments, feasibility studies for modernization of large buildings at the Denver Federal Center, and community service centers. I've produced core & shell offices, commercial / light industrial buildings, LEED certified projects, historic renovation, hotel, religious buildings and senior housing. For a season I was involved in investigation of failed building envelopes and affected interior conditions. With an understanding of the sources of the failures, I've helped develop remedial solutions, working with both engineers and other architects, as I have an appreciation for the interconnectedness of our work.
Listed skills include Leed, Architecture, Leed Ap, Sustainable Design, and 38 others.
