Programme Leader Humanitarian Disarmament, Business Conflict And Human Rights

Current

Utrecht, Nederland

PAX works to protect civilians against acts of war, to end armed violence and to build inclusive peace. We work in conflict areas worldwide, together with local partners and people who, just like us, believe that everyone has a right to a dignified life in a peaceful society. The team Humanitarian Disarmament, Business Conflict and Human Rights works on getting stronger international standards for disarmament and responsible company behaviour in conflict zones. We work to stop the adverse effects of irresponsible company behaviour and of weapons for civilians in conflict zones. Both often strengthen conflict dynamics and cause civilian suffering. Our team works to develop strong international standards that stop civilian suffering through armed violence and exploitative company behaviour. As programme leader I work with 10 colleagues to implement our programme and make our advocacy successful. I represent the team within PAX, create overview over the programme's strategy, outputs and goals. I help guide decision making both within the team and within PAX where it concerns the thematic focus of the team. Next to Programme Leader I also manage one of the projects within the team. In that role I coordinate the Fair Pension Guide.

Apr 2021 - Present

Coördinator Eerlijke Pensioenwijzer

Utrecht, Nederland

Starting in 2018, I set up, launched and coordinated the Fair Pension Guide (Eerlijke Pensioenwijzer). The Fair Pension Guide is part of the Fair Finance Guide NL, alongside the Fair Bank Guide and the Fair Insurance Guide. The Fair Pension Guide wants to inform pension savers about where their money is invested and whether it is invested responsibly. The Fair Pension Guide assesses investment policy and practice of 10 Dutch pension funds which together hold over 1,200 billion in assets under management. Assessments cover policy and practice on human rights, the arms sector, the climate crisis and many other issues. As coördinator I ensured consistent messaging about and to pension funds. I was the main point of contact for the pension funds in the FPG and oversee engagement with pension funds. I also managed relations with other actors in the pension sector and with likeminded organizations.See: eerlijkepensioenwijzer.nl

Policy Adviser

Utrecht Area, Netherlands

With the Dutch Peace Council, I was part of a team researching the implications of the 'Protection of Civilians' concept for the Dutch armed forces. This research, based on the experience of the Council in a variety of conflict areas, was used as the basis for our advocacy campaign to influence the orientation of the Dutch armed forces. I was involved in both the research stage, the strategy stage and the advocacy stage, actively engaging in meetings and fora. This involved research, writing of two published policy papers, a number of presentations for different audiences, developing a training on security and local governments, setting up press conferences, drafting op-eds and numerous articles for relevant magazines. In addition, I had a support role in the team, aggregating reports as part of a funding requirement, as well as drafting the strategic vision and overview for crucial funding opportunities.
