The bridge has a only one span of 3.3 km in length (for today is the longest single span bridge on the world), the deck is suspended on two pairs of cables (each pair consists of two long steel cables of 5 km) bound to land at either end of the bridge and at the two towers 400 m high. The deck has a road and rail traffic. The construction cost is estimated at around 2 billion euro;• Assessment of the structural response of the bridge, prone to static and dynamic actions (wind, earthquake, loads mobile road and rail) through static and dynamic analysis (time history) conducted on the finite element model;• For the purposes of functionality and usability of the work were assessed the extent and intensity of wind-induced oscillations and the consequent deck reduction due to the simultaneous transit of the road and rail loads. The navigability of the stretch of sea crossing from the bridge is one of the rigid constraints that the structure must comply;• The stability and strength of the structure was especially assessed in case of seismic stress. The peculiarities of the structure, 3 km distance between two points in contact with the ground, towers, made necessary the deployment of dynamic seismic analysis by adopting displacements data (obtained from double integration of accelerograms curves) and replacing usual accelerograms, to take into account of the different moments in which the seismic wave invests the two towers.
