    Built an API rate limiting microservice for internal imports. API requests adding records to the database were queued in Amazon SQS and dequeued to our API at a steady rate. This service allowed us to control the load on our API servers and databases independent of the number of insert requests we were receiving.Built a standalone ETL where non developers were able to upload, standardize and import data files from many formats. This tool is used internally to import the national voter file (190 million voters and their voting histories 4 times a year ~ 1.5 billion records from hundreds of different sources)Built a Bayesian classifier using internal and census data to infer gender, ethnicity, and party affiliation.Built a probabilistic record linkage system on a graph database to match duplicate records.Performed a major overhaul of how emails are treated in code and data models.

    Even if you know exactly how hard its raining (say an inch and hour), you still have no idea where and when any drop of rain will hit the ground, Similarly, you can know how much power a laser delivers without knowing exactly where and when each packet of energy (photon) will arrive. I measure the tiny force that results from random photon arrival times (shot noise) on millionth of a second time scales.Measuring this quantity involves solving a lot of unique problems using math, analytical models, design, and engineering. Sometimes I know how to solve them, most often I have to learn fast. Skills developed on this project include:-Python-Data collection-Data analysis-Machine automation-Creating and managing projects for undergraduate lab members-Poissonian statistics-Correlation measurements in the time and frequency domain-Finding signals in seemingly noisy data-Feedback analysis in the frequency domain-Convincing investors that their money is being well spent-Technical writing-Fiber optic and microwave technology-Quantum measurement-Budgeting time, and money for an experiment
