My friend Linda and I founded the “Kinderen van de Evenaar” Foundation with a (web) store as our revenue model. All the money we earn is spent to support small-scale and child-related nonprofit organizations. More info to be found on our website: www.kvde.nl. We expect to reach total donations of EUR 100,000 by 2022. In our store we sell mainly fair trade items which we often buy locally ourselves (e.g. alpaca wool plaids and scarves in Ecuador) and for which we pay a fair price. By doing so, we support people in developing countries twice. First, because we buy their goods and thus create work, and then the profit goes to (their) children: they get good food and can get an education. This way we help the children make their dreams come true. Until 2019, we sponsored Villa Ticca in Quito, Ecuador exclusively. It is situated in El Camal, in the poor south of Quito. Here many adolescent pregnancies occur. Most of the young moms don't have a place to turn to for support and they are often incapable of taking good care of their children because of poverty and lack of education. Villa Ticca offers the moms the possibility to take their children to daycare. Villa Ticca is a safe place for them. It allows them to grow up as happy, self-confident kids.
