As a fierce advocate, in every position I’ve held, I’ve been a knowledge sharer, seeking to provide information. My work has predominantly focused on the food system. Food is the great connector, as it impacts every aspect of life. It connects us to ourselves, each other, the earth, everything; past, present, and future. Proactive food systems are the path to solving many of the world’s problems. Agroecology is life giving: it cultivates community, careers, environmental regeneration, and of course food. My decade in the food service industry provided insight into the largest employment sector of the U.S. agriculture, food, and related industries. From this sector, I’ve interacted with the food system’s many participants, from producers and supplies to employers and consumers. I’ve worked in a small, family run slow food movement restaurant, a large, globally renowned steak house, the best catering company in Central Florida, and many more. I learnt the importance of professionalism, relationship building, and having confidence in every new setting. I learnt service staff, like advocates, are knowledge holders, anticipating needs and sharing information at the right time to ensure a seamless experience.
