As part of a small, Scrum-based team, assist in maintaining and upgrading multiple web-based applications, including a B2C e-commerce application, a B2B e-commerce application, a B2B e-procurement application, and an internal administrative application. Worked collaboratively with multiple development groups on a complex XML-translation library that converts XML documents from a complicated proprietary format to an unrelated industry-standard XML format. Provided guidance and support in numerous development areas, including overall architecture of the program, suggestions and employment of best practices and existing, highly-regarded Java tools, and creation of useful and efficient development tools. Also helped to train a small number of developers, including those that were not yet proficient in Java.

Assisted in both front- and back-end development and maintenance of almost all internal software – approximately twenty-five applications and libraries – as part of a seven-man/four-developer IT department of a small e-commerce credit card-processing company. Frequently participated in and contributed to the various stages of the development process, including requirements-gathering (including with external customers and internal stakeholders), system specification, software design, implementation, testing and debugging, deployment, maintenance, and documentation for both small and large projects. Contributed to mindset of development team to employ numerous software development best practices, including separation of concerns, abstraction, design patterns, domain-driven design, thorough unit and functional testing, etc. Also participated in a triweekly on-call rotation for issues that arose outside of normal business hours that required immediate remediation.

Analyzed and implemented customer-requested requirements into two U.S. Marine Corps web-based applications: the Marine Reserve Order Writing System (MROWS) and the Marine Corps Electronic Administrative Separations (MCEAS). Common tasks included attending meetings with customers to discuss desired modifications to systems; analytical discussions with fellow software engineers (including those that are more senior-level) and SMEs (subject matter experts) of the systems to determine coding and functionality requirements; and extensive examining, modifying, and testing of code.

Analyzed and aided in modifying a U.S. military program called Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS). Extensively analyzed code, and performed or helped with one or more of the following for each assigned requirement or task: develop requirement definition; develop and integrate code; and evaluate code. Languages included Ada (mostly analyzing), Java (analyzing and coding), Perl (mostly coding), XML (mostly Apache Ant coding), and minimal amounts of SQL and C. Worked both alone and within groups, and with differing levels and categories of personnel.Although time was spent on a handful or more requirements and tasks, two major tasks included- aiding in integrating the AFATDS Ada code that was translated into Java (only portions were being integrated at a time, but hopes were in place to eventually translate and integrate all of the 3+ million lines of Ada source) into the rest of the system, and- creating a Java test setup generator program that relied heavily on recursion and Java reflection.Obtained a security classification level of Secret while employed at Stanley, Inc.
