Led the communications efforts of the Conservative Party of Canada - a mainstream political party that governed Canada for nearly 10 of the last 15 years. The position included a strong focus on brand management, and providing political communications advice to the party leader, and members of caucus, as well as outreach to voters and general messaging to identified supporters. Helped incorporate marketing and communications plans, building off field research and feedback to make it as effective as possible. Liaised with volunteers across Canada, ensuring representatives in media appearances have the material they need to drive a desired narrative. Coordinated and built large-scale public interest events including four National Conventions attended by thousands, seven national leadership debates, and two Leadership announcement events, working with all major Canadian broadcasters and media outlets to ensure broad coverage of each.

Providing advice and communication direction to the Minister and department on files as they relate to reforms to Canada’s elections. Responsible for understanding complex aspects of the Elections Act and understanding the reforms that would be proposed, and developing a communications plan for roll-out of the reforms.

Providing advice and communication direction to the Minister and department on range of files, especially Federal-Provincial-Territorial relations. As the lead Minister for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, role also included being well-versed in broad based issues across government departments as they relate to the province, including having a well-rounded understanding of the political issues.

In addition to role as Press Secretary, also took on the role of Director of Issues Management. It involved crisis communications and crisis management, risk analysis based on potential legislation and recommended response paths to any variety of scenarios that could happen as a result. This position also involved daily morning briefing calls across government departments to inform senior staffers both in the Prime Minister’s Office and other Ministers Offices of any current or ongoing issue that may be in the media, as well as the response to the issue. This meant an in-depth media review was required, and other preparation work early in the day.

Responsible for managing two staff members and over 100 grassroots volunteers. Organized 32 executive boards, helping them meet various regulatory deadlines as well as being available to provide any needed guidance as it relates to Canadian legislation and policies that affect their standing as an executive and association. Tasked with recruitment of candidates to stand for election under the Conservative Party name. Worked cooperatively with members of Conservative caucus, including the leader, when political events were happening in this region. During the 41st General Election, responsibilities shifted to even greater focus on the 32 individual candidates, their volunteers, and their campaigns, including providing political advice for communications, crisis management and overall political strategy.
