My primary responsibilities as a Millwright include troubleshooting and maintaining the HEWSAW saw line. This machine consists of hundreds of moving axes that incorporate electronics, hydraulics and pneumatics. I am a very driven individual and take initiative in solving maintenance problems.While performing maintenance, I spend a great deal of time developing procedural changes to better suit the needs of the machinery and production. This includes time/cycle dependent maintenance programs that could be customized to each piece of machinery. In doing so, I have designed and integrated various parts and tools to extend the time interval between needed maintenance. I also perform Root Cause Analysis and identify recurring issues with the machinery and design solutions for each specific need. After initial design/engineering, results and solutions are presented to managers. I also facilitate acquisition of needed parts and lead fabrication efforts with vendors and manufacturers so solutions can be implemented quickly. I have recently implemented the use of a 3D printer to aid in rapid proto-typing to ensure dimensional tolerances before committing to machining parts. Through these efforts, I have documented numerous costs saving efforts and how it effects the mill and specifically, the maintenance department. This is also done through various forms of communication and making sure all personnel are aware of current projects and updated schedules.I have a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of North Dakota with an emphasis in material science and manufacturing techniques. I have led many team projects for school which required excellent communication skills, being a distant learning student. This program also introduced me to the Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing procedures and how to apply their techniques to a manufacturing environment. This experience gives me a unique perspective on the needs of the maintenance program and the design challenges that are presented. I believe working with seasoned personnel and learning current procedures is the best way to understand each problem and apply unique design solutions to solve manufacturing challenges.
