To whom it may concern,My name is Cory Ryder and I am a senior at the University of Tampa. I will be graduating inDecember of 2024 with a degree in Marine-Science Biology. However, I also have a declareddouble major in environmental studies, as well as a double minor in chemistry and sustainability.Due to VA funding, I have to postpone the latter degrees into the short future (16 credit hoursremaining for the three other degree completion.) During my undergraduate studies, I have becomevery interested and passionate about geochemistry and the associated hydrology. Thus resulting ina diversion away from biology and into the environmental sciences. Most recently I havecompleted courses in marine geology and chemical oceanography, I then applied this toobtain an NSF-funded research experience for undergraduates (REU). This REU took place atTexas A&M University. Here, I worked with geochemist Dr. Franco Marcantonio and chemicaloceanographer Dr. Jessica Fitzsimmons analyzing Pb isotopic ratios collected in the South PacificOcean. This experience introduced me to clean chemistry lab techniques, column chromatography, applications of an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS), familiarization withdata collection, deployment of instruments on a research cruise in the Gulf of Mexico (Lumcon),and an increased interest in geochemistry. I have also held a GIS internship with FlatwoodsEnvironmental Consulting where I was tasked with using ArcMap and ArcPro to create a varietyof deliverables for the company, igniting a desire to learn more about geospatial programming.I am a Navy veteran who was tasked with the breakdown and buildup of F414 (F18) jet engines.During this time, I developed precise attention to detail because lives were at stake. I consider myself an independent worker with little to no supervision or guidance required, but Iam not afraid to seek guidance when necessary. I have great time management and enjoycompleting concurrent projects. I consider myself a professional and I conduct business as well asappearance as one. I am skilled in PowerPoint, Teams, Excel, and professional communication. Ienjoy a fast-paced work schedule and consider myself a team player. I am very interested in allthings environmental science and enjoy learning whenever possible.
