Cory graduated from the University of New Brunswick law school in 2003 and was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2004 and the New Brunswick Bar in 2019. He has practiced with the Burchells civil litigation group since his admission to the Bar, and has served on the firm's management committee.Cory’s practice focuses largely on insurance defence litigation (including working with insurers defending motor vehicle claims, as well as occupiers’ liability, property, and business interruption claims), the litigation of construction disputes and other complex commercial, administrative, contractual and tort matters.Cory was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 16th Edition of Best Lawyers in Canada in 2022 in the areas of Construction Law, Insurance Law, and Labour and Employment Law. Best Lawyers in Canada™ administers a list of top lawyers in different practice areas, compiled based on peer-review evaluations. Previously, Cory was named to the second annual Under 40 Hotlist by Benchmark, a leading trade publication covering the litigation and disputes market in North America. The Under 40 Hotlist consists of lawyers under 40 who have been deemed the most promising emerging talent in their respective litigation communities in the US and Canada by peers and clients.Cory has appeared frequently as counsel in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal, and the Small Claims Court of Nova Scotia. He has also appeared before the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the New Brunswick Court of Queen’s Bench.Cory is a member of the Canadian Defence Lawyers, the Canadian Bar Association, the Nova Scotia Barristers Society and the Law Society of New Brunswick. He is past-chair of the Civil Litigation/Alternative Dispute Resolution sub-section of the Canada Bar Association Nova Scotia.In his free time Cory enjoys spending time with his wife and son, is involved in coaching both hockey and baseball and hits the golf course on occasion.
