Led the stevedoring operations of a marine terminal in generating $30 million annual sales and 280,000 annual container lifts. Created and committed to be measured on the operation’s $10 million expense budget. Directed eight superintendents and over 120 union longshoremen. Controlled over $100 million worth of equipment: 50 straddle carriers and seven of the world’s largest container cranes. Developed functional and practical expertise in areas of marine terminal management, labor union relations, and port commissioning and design. • Directed the Port of Tacoma’s largest and busiest waterfront container terminal to the highest contract production figures out of the company’s 12 West Coast container terminals, with actual revenue in excess of $1.8 million above planned figures. • Reduced expenditures below budget– in total by $1.3 million over tenure. Reduced departmental non-fixed manning levels to lowest point since terminal opening, saving approximately $700,000 annually. Implemented West Coast’s first live dockside labor-reducing technologies, resulting in a 30% clerk-cost reduction for an annual savings of over $1.5 million. • Hand-selected by Vice President of major business division for the company’s Best Practices Review Team. Audited and improved performance of sister-terminal operations in Los Angeles/Long Beach, Oakland, and Tacoma. • Designed and oversaw construction of critically needed high-capacity de-icer unit during regional shortage of heavy snow-removal equipment. Became only terminal to stay open during 2008 snowstorm and saved the company over 60% in abatement costs versus port-serviced terminals.• Executed coordinated efforts as a member of the design and commissioning team for Pierce County Terminal, the biggest single-user acreage terminal north of Los Angeles. • Implemented new corporate Safety Walkabout program, resulting in immediate 10% reduction in damage and injury claims.

Managed night operations for Middle Harbor Terminal, a $14 million revenue operation. Directed stevedoring and yard operations, equipment maintenance and repair, care of refrigerated cargo, vessel planning, labor relations, and terminal security. Supervised over 80 union longshoremen per shift. Controlled $30 million in equipment. • Implemented and managed emergency military container export operation during 2002 PMA/ILWU work stoppage. Successfully marshaled and exported all critical armed forces container cargo from Port of Oakland container terminals on short notice to the Concord Naval Weapons Station for immediate inventorying and loading aboard a non-containerized U.S. government vessel. Led terminal staff in handling of MHT’s first military RO/RO operations with high satisfaction from U.S. armed services personnel.• Maintained high third-party stevedore client satisfaction with zero major damage during delicate breakbulk and yacht-handling operations. Scheduled and coordinated handling of high-value JIT loads with a 98% success rate for potential opportunities. Minimized work stoppage periods to less than 2% of scheduled production.
