I recently graduated from the University of Minnesota with my BME and am excited to put it to good use. I have been working in the craft beer industry for several years and have applied my knowledge of fluid dynamics, heat transfer and general problem solving and analysis to the process. When I found myself coding basic programs to craft recipes from appendices of products I knew it was time to find harder challenges to face.My current work requires knowledge of the fermentation process and the mitigation and reuse of carbon dioxide gas, material stresses of pressure vessels, determining specific gravities and pH measurements as well as use of hemocytometer and microscope for calculating yeast volumes. Since the fermentation process doesn't stop because parts fail, my work often requires quick thinking and abstract solutions to immediate problems. This, along with nearly two decades of work experience has developed a calm and collected person well suited for both normal and high pressure work situations.Previous jobs have required me to manage teams of employees operating in different, and often conflicting, capacities and sound communication as well as a pragmatic approach became necessary. I am organized and collected, I have a passion for learning and appreciate both good science and good art with hobbies including playing the guitar, baking, writing, learning about carbon capture, geothermal heating, and of course, what I consider the embodiment of science blending with art, micro brewing. To that affect, I worked with a Western Washington University professor to reach out to seniors in the Whatcom County area to teach about brewing history, the process, and proper sensory analysis. It was a fantastic experience.I have been trained in finite element analysis using ANSYS and CREO Parametric for use in CAD as well as 3D printing and auto-lathe applications. I also have entry level hands on experience with machining tools and injection molding. I learned basic coding on an Arduino and through MatLAB and have basic C++ and C coding knowledge for operating and tuning PID controls. Also, use of electrical system and oscilloscopes to convert alternating current to direct and vice versa. I am proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and can operate on Windows OS, iOS and Linux. I am a very optimistic and driven individual and am very excited to transition into engineering and see what challenges await me.
