I’ve been teaching music in the public school system for six years and am looking to transition into a new career. I believe the skills and attributes I’ve developed as an educator can be applied to many different domains. As an educator my role as a leader is to bring the mission, values, and projects to fruition. With countless hours of practice and performances, maintaining clear and accurate records of student progress, developing curriculum and lesson plans, and being the point of contact between students, parents, colleagues and administrators would not be possible without excellent organization and communication skills. My successes in education primarily come from creating a welcoming environment and using a variety of communication styles to help guide my students to self-sufficiency. The “problem students” other teachers would complain about found refuge in my classroom, often without even being enrolled in any of my classes. Whether it is a confused student or a malfunctioning instrument I am always analyzing problems, thinking through multiple potential solutions, and finding ways to be more efficient. My ability to assess needs and develop plans using clear, simple, and logical sequencing leads to higher student success and retention- making me the teacher with the highest retention rate in 2021 at the Loveland Academy of Music.My desire to constantly be growing is evident through not just my career, but in my personal life as well. I enjoy daily yoga and meditation, creating lifting routines, practicing any of the multitude of instruments I play, and am currently enrolled in Harvard’s introductory CS50 course.
