My experience at TTU and SFA has provided me with a well rounded, fundamental background necessary to be successful in the geoscience industry. My ability to work well with others and present ideas to large groups of people allowed me to thrive at my TA position at SFA where I taught an introductory geology lab. Being able to communicate complex ideas to a large group of freshman students requires patience, articulation, leadership and enthusiasm. At SFA I attended the course Advanced Petroleum Geology where short courses were taught by various guest speakers who had experience in the oil and gas industry. This provided valuable knowledge about the industry from seismic data acquisition to oil and gas law in Texas.Carrying out my thesis research has sharpened my ability to quickly grasp advanced topics and apply them to my own ideas, in addition to compiling and interpreting data acquired from field work. Conducting a fracture analysis of the Weches Formation of East Texas I was able to determine three separate regional joint sets and present evidence supporting a correlation to deformational events and the contemporary tectonic stress regime.
