At the end of my 3 year program I completed my seven week placement with Latitude 46 Publishing. As a book lover, I was able to dive deeper into the understanding of how the publishing industry works. My tasks during placement included author relations, design, market research, event management and execution, communication and technical tasks, administrative, social media marketing, and advertising. As an intern publicist, I work closely with the head of office, Heather Campbell (publisher), as well as several authors. This demanded interpersonal and problem solving skills, as well as strong communication skills, to complete a variety of Public Relation tasks to earn media coverage and exposure to ultimately result in higher book sales.

Although my main job here is customer service, the owners of the local bookstore are always looking for ways to improve the overall image and brand at Bay Used Books. In relation to PR work, I have completed technical tasks such as database creation, design tasks (branding and content creation), and marketing plans to attract new customers from surrounding areas. In recent years, my employers have been looking for different ways to appeal to its customers, by reinforcing a stronger brand (swag, new signage, etc), and by hosting events and fundraisers to support other community members.
