Oversees compiling and preparing the annual budget. Develops and coordinates the implementation of cost tracking systems, including maintaining information for State Mandated Cost billings. Keeps abreast of legislative changes and legal issues involving County government. Provides advice on code and law changes to other staff. Represents the Office of the Tax Collector with the public, boards, commissions, and representatives of other government agencies as delegated.

Prior to his current employment with the Walton County Tax Collector’s Office, Cory Godwin served as the Assistant Warden of Walton Correctional Institution, an adult male state correctional facility housing over 1,500 convicted felons. During his 17.5 years service with the Department of Corrections, which began as a correctional officer, Cory also served as the agencies gang intelligence coordinator, becoming a court certified expert on street and prison gangs. He is a published author and has written many professional articles on the subject of gangs. He has also presented hundreds of presentations at of law enforcement seminars, conferences and community events.
