I have learned a lot about industrial power transmission products and applications in my 11 years of experience at Malloy as a Power Transmission projects specialist. Mechanical Engineering StudentDaktronics May 2006 - Nov 2007I worked with a product development group on design, build, and testing of new products. This was my first job in the engineering field. I was happy to learn that this was going to be a hands-on engineering job, involving ingress protection testing, prototype builds and destructive testing. I learned how to communicate and organize materials and time utilizing the proprietary systems within the company. I learned to model sheet metal in ProE while also expanding on my solid modeling skills. I learned about the processes involved in manufacturing parts and assemblies, and how to apply that knowledge to make parts easier to manufacture and assemble while reducing the total cost. During my second summer I had the opportunity to do an internship project to determine the minimum radius at which a display can be reduced while maintaining the strict ingress protection standard of the sings. I got to train and direct a new summer intern to help me with this project.
