    • Led teams of up to 10 graduate and undergraduate students.• Developed a rapid and scalable method to produce atomically smooth nanoporous materials for optical coatings that reduces the current energetic costs for deposition and are nearly 100% anti-reflective. Patent filed.• Reduced crystallization temperature of amorphous thin films by over 30% by controlling speciation of aluminum hydroxide cluster solutions.• Developed scalable methods to synthesize a range of aluminum hydroxide clusters, including Al13-Keggin, that reduces reaction times, increases concentration stability, and uses no cations other than Al. Patent filed.• Increased energy efficiency of thin film production by decreasing processing temperatures by over 50%.
  • Oklahoma State University
    Research Assistant
Oklahoma State University Aug 2009 - May 2014
    Stillwater, Ok
    • Improved uptake capacities and kinetics of heavy metals and radionuclide using scheelite-type metal oxides by developing a structure-property relationship.• Developed porous materials for the sorption heavy metals, demonstrating reaction half-lives of less than 30 s. • Demonstrated methods to recover heavy metals and radionuclides in yields as high at 100%.• Established methods to synthesize various phase pure metal-tungsten and metal-molybdenum oxides at temperatures as low as 100 ºC.

Investigated the plausibility of a controversial new theory that recently emerged in archaeology regarding the end of the Clovis Culture some 13 ka in the past. This theory claims that a comet, or series of comets, impacted the Earth, resulting in the extinction of Pleistocene megafauna, and triggered the succeeding Younger Dryas climatic cooling event.•Study of impact-related nanodiamonds and magnetic microspherules in a Younger Dryas Black Mat, sampled from the Maze District, Canyonlands National Park, Utah using EDX, SEM, and TEM
  • National Science Foundation
    Research Experience For Undergraduates
National Science Foundation May 2008 - Aug 2008
    Stillwater, Ok
Research in the field of inorganic materials chemistry, specifically the synthesis of sodium molybdenum bronze for the detection of peroxide based improvised explosives. • Optimized the synthesized sodium molybdenum bronzes using a sodium bicarbonate buffer through a series of statistically designed experiments • Characterized materials using XRF and flame photometry• Devised experiments for peroxide detection and developed a sensor for the direct detection of peroxide vapors
