Cory is currently a senior associate software engineer at Capital One. He works on an application that analyzes company AWS usage and gives recommendations that cut costs and maintain resilience, saving the company over $100 million in AWS spend. Before working on CloudX, Cory worked on a different team at Capital One to replace a legacy mainframe NACHA payments processor with a modernized microservice using a Kafka Stream. He profiled and implemented performance improvements on the ACH payments process that improved the processing time from single digit TPS to over 250 TPS.Cory was accepted out of college to the Capital One Developer Academy, a 6-month internal bootcamp that taught Full-Stack Development to employees without a computer science background. Cory's educational background was in Applied and Computational Mathematics, with an emphasis in financial markets, also double majoring in Economics from Brigham Young University. He spent time as a research assistant for the mathematics and economics departments, solving unique problems with Machine Learning Models and Big Data analysis. Cory served as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chicago, Illinois after receiving his Associates of Mathematics degree with high honors from Utah Valley University. In his time at UVU, he was a student athlete - playing lock on the university rugby team.In his free time, Cory loves spending time outside camping and fishing with his wife and daughter. He's always up for a round of golf and hitting the slopes on his snowboard, but also loves to cook, bake, and throw pottery.
